Let me start off by saying that I will be back to the Bird's Nest. It is rare that you walk into a place and feel so at home instantly, as if you've known Waldo and family for years. The mood is exactly what people look for in a Caribbean -relaxed, personable, charming, and private. As the program director and tourism manager for a Sustainable Farm destination on St. Croix, I truly appreciate the attention to detail when it comes to making the place livable. It was decked out with ammenities, literally saving us hundreds on meals and other services that we would have otherwise had to purchased elsewhere. It was super-clean but not sterile like a hospital -a perfect balance of homey and approachable - instant and lasting comfort, and for a price that made me literally try to pay more -but he refused to take it. The identify and the unique story of the place make it something to treasure and cherish that can never be replaced! Waldo and his wife know what they are doing, they have a sense for what visitors are there for... with a terrific sense of humor.... if you stay here, ask Waldo why his grapefruits are so sweet and productive.... I've told the story over and over again! hilarious!
From the initial booking Waldo was extremely helpful and after a few emails I knew this was the place. My girlfriend is dying to go back.... maybe the bird nest will see us again soon. I better not say too much... I want there to be openings in the future! One really helpful aspect was that nearly everyone on the island knew the bird's nest and Waldo. There were a few times where we dropped his name and people were instantly more helpful and it was clear that he has as good of a reputation with his neighbors as his guests. If you want further referral or info, email me at nate@visfi.org and I'd be glad to offer more info on the place. Book it!
